About Canterbury Woodchip
Canterbury Woodchip Supplies (CWS) Ltd is a locally owned and operated business located in Arundel, South Canterbury. Since the inception in 2009 Brad Coleman (Owner) and his proficient team have been revising existing technologies surrounding the use of biomass fuel and how it can be enhanced to deliver a more economic, clean burning and sustainable option to a variety of end users.
These endeavours have resulted in a range of products which are currently heating domestic homes, light industry and an array of large scale businesses including 2 significant hospitals within the Canterbury region.
In addition to this, we play an integral role in the agricultural arena supplying a premium grade animal-bedding which is ideally suited to most livestock, but in particular: dairy calves. More recently (commencing 2009) CWS was -nominated as the individual supplier to all live animal-exports leaving New Zealand’s shores. It is the reputation of a consistently high-grade litter which has led us to becoming the business of choice for such products.
Due to increased demand, CWS now supplies a variety of landscaping products including coloured (wood) chip, certified playground surfacing and domestic garden type mulch.
Bioenergy Association of NZ (BANZ):
- In 2014 an alliance was formed with BANZ to assist in developing a framework for woodchip supply standards. The outcome has seen the implementation of a national ‘Accreditation Scheme” which sets clear parameters for both existing and potential bio-fuel suppliers to adhere. In so doing, there has been a dramatic lift in the quality of products available to consumers and this can only be seen as an enormously positive step forward for industry.
- The future for an increased use of renewable and sustainable biomass in NZ is unlimited and CWS is helping pave the way with new technology and innovations which stand to benefit us all.
Livestock Bedding:
Keeping livestock healthy is the key to successful farming. Delivering throughout the entire Canterbury region, CWS specialises in purpose chipped bedding for various applications:
Calf Bedding
- A deep litter system of 300mm is recommended
- Use premium grade woodchips of 30 – 50mm
- Urine and waste drains away from the animals preventing a disease harbouring environment
- Excellent fertiliser value post-use
Export Grade Calf Bedding
- Fine grade chip 5mm and 15mm
- Specifically graded for calf comfort
- Bagged into 70/litre bags and pelleted into 1/t cargo loads
Cow Houses & Loafing Barns
- Premium grade woodchips of 30 – 50mm
- Rounded woodchips to ensure hoof safety
- Cushioned surface for comfort
- A deep litter with substantial chip size creates a free draining environment
- Run a maxi-till through the chip to increase aeration and maintain cleanliness
- Excellent fertiliser value post-use
